The epidemic has made it inconvenient for migrant workers to enter and exit the country. There were 7,000 fewer family care workers in July than in February, which has the greatest impact.  Reporter Huang Zhongyu/Photography

Due to the entry and exit control of the epidemic, there were more than 7,000 fewer caregivers in July than in February. The intermediary industry pointed out that the daily salary of domestic caregivers is more than twice that of foreign caregivers. The elders of the people are in urgent need of care, but they cannot afford to hire domestic caregivers.  Because foreign care workers could not come in, they kept calling for help, and even asked for extra red envelopes to the intermediary staff, but it was really "you can't find anyone if you have money!"

The Multinational Workforce Management Team of the Workforce Development Agency stated that due to Vietnam’s prohibition on exporting migrant workers and the suspension of flights in Indonesia, Thailand and other countries, the time for caregivers has been shortened for a while. With the increase of flights in various countries, this problem should be gradually improved.

"Good luck, Mary is back!" said an employer surnamed Chen in Chiayi City. Her father-in-law was demented and her mother-in-law was inconvenient. Three years ago, she hired a Filipino caregiver Mary to help take care of her.  At the beginning of January, Mary applied for an early return to the Philippines. During that month, her family could only ask for special time off and work together to take care of her parents. It was not until Mary returned to Taiwan on New Year's Eve and before the outbreak to solve the troubles of both work and family.  The family is very fortunate to this day. If Mary fails to return to Taiwan as scheduled, she really doesn’t know what to do. After all, the Taiwanese nurse "really can't afford it!"

According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, although the Ministry of Labor still approved 66,712 foreign care workers to enter Taiwan from February to July, the number of care workers in July was still 7,000 fewer than in February.

Wu Jiahao, deputy manager of the Chiayi company, a human resources management consulting company, said that the demand for foreign migrant workers and care workers in China is really great, especially for care workers. The monthly salary plus room and board is only 25,000 to 30,000 yuan, which can be 24 hours.  Accompany the elders.  The daily salary of Taiwanese nursing staff is only 2,000 yuan, plus vacations, which most families cannot afford.

He said that due to the epidemic, Southeast Asia, from Indonesia, the Philippines to Vietnam, had previously applied for care workers to come to Taiwan to be suspended. During this time, everyone can only "transfer" care workers, that is, the person being cared for died, or for some reason.  Employers no longer hire, and these care workers must return to their home countries in accordance with the law. They cannot go back due to the epidemic and can only continue to work. Everyone is robbing people.

Wu Jiahao said that "everyone is very short of nursing migrant workers." A family member called and said, "It's very urgent, but you can get extra red envelopes." He asked him to help find nursing as soon as possible, but the company couldn't help.

My opinion

If you are mistreated by bad boss or their families. Better bravely to call brokers first. If they ignored, then call 1955. Better take videos or recording for evidences  about the unreasonable events. Try to change broker or boss if they really can't change.

You sacrifice for together with your families to work here. You are not a slaves without freedom and not deserve to be mistreated.
